About Me
Crystal Burns, M.Ed

I am passionate about making a difference in the lives of students with disabilities through education and advocacy. I currently have a Masters in Special Education from Texas Tech University, I hold an Educational Diagnostician certification and a teaching certification for EC-12 Special Education, EC-6 Generalist with ESL endorsement, and 8-12 Social Studies. Over the last 20 years I have worked with students from 18 months to 23 years old, across settings from daycare to an alternative high school. Over the last 5 years I have been responsible for identifying learning disabilities, such as Dyslexia, and assisting staff and parents in the development of an appropriate individual educational plan (IEP). I stay current in special education law in the state of Texas in order to ensure that I am able to offer the best assistance for the staff and families I work with.

On a personal level, my commitment to special education advocacy is deeply rooted. I have an older sister who has a chromosomal disorder known as 1p36 and an intellectual disability. My husband has a severe speech impairment and our daughter is identified as ADHD and autistic. Due to her disabilities I also have a deep understanding of how public school may not be appropriate for all students and how difficult it can be to fight for your child in the school system.

These personal and professional experiences have fueled my passion for advocating for inclusive education environments where every student can thrive. I am committed to empowering parents, teachers, and students with disabilities by providing support, resources, and guidance to navigate the complexities of the educational system effectively.
